NON-BRAZILIAN LUSOPHONE MUSIC

Brazil wasn't the only place colonized by the Portuguese -- Angola, Mozambique, the Cape Verde Islands and other former colonies each have their unique pop styles, and Portugal itself has a long musical tradition. The influence of Brazilian pop is strong in all these countries -- in much the same way that Cuban dance music brought West African rhythms back to the continent, the global success of Brazilian samba, bossa nova and MPB has had a profound impact on modern Lusophone (Portuguese language) pop. Here is a sampling of a few artists and records which are worth checking out.
