United Kingdom Country Artists This is a resolutely incomplete, non-definitive guide to British (and Irish) country music, or at least the small sliver of it visible to me, here in the distant American colonies. There have been an awful lot of UK (and Irish) twangbands, dating back many decades, and many remain quite obscure, even on the isles. But I will keep banging away and tracking down as many artists as I can find. As always, any helpful comments, corrections and suggestions are welcome.

Venita/Adele "Country Gospel" (Outlet Records, 197-?) (LP)

Dave Vernon & New Country "Child Of 1945: Ten Original Tracks" (Lakeside Records, 1985) (LP)
(Produced by Chris Andrews)

An indie set of all-original material, recorded in a studio in Watford, Oxfordshire... The New Country band included Dale Vernon on lead vocals, along with Chris Andrews and Nicky Nicholls, who also provided much of the album's new material, as well as guest appearances on a couple of tracks by guitarist Dave Wallis, and a harmony singer identified only as "Linda." Apparently the title track, "Child Of 1945," had previously been released as a single, and re-recorded for this album; Vernon also had another song, "I'll Never Find Another You," included on a regional country compilation called "BRITISH COUNTRY HARVEST," which came out in 1984, though alas that song is not included here.

The Virginians "Virginian Country" (Storm Records, 1976) (LP)

The Virginians "Out Behind The Barn" (GIJK Records, 1985) (LP)
