Lucky Starr (ne Leslie Morrison) was an influential jack-of-all-trades in the Australian entertainment industry, a recording artist and television host, Starr worked in several genres, including rock and pop, but is best known as a country singer. His first big hit -- way back in 1962 -- was a perky, Australian-ized version of Hank Snow's "I've Been Everywhere," replete with Aussie slang and a slew of far-flung geographical references, from Melbourne to Billabong. Born in 1940, Lucky Starr was still going strong, touring and performing as recently as 2023. Here's a quick look at his work...
Lucky Starr "I've Been Everywhere" (Festival Records, 1962) (LP)
Lucky Starr "The Silver Spade Digs Lucky" (Festival Records, 1965) (LP)
Lucky Starr "Big Wheels" (RCA Camden, 1974) (LP)
Lucky Starr "I Am The Words" (RCA Victor, 1974) (LP)
Lucky Starr/Nev Nicholls "Lucky Starr Radio Show/Nev Nichols Radio Show" (RCA Records, 1976) (LP)
A promo album, probably sent out to country deejays, with two pre-produced programs, one for Lucky Starr, and the other for country trucker Nev Nicholls.
Lucky Starr "Wheels" (RCA-Australia, 1976) (LP)
Lucky Starr "Lucky Starr And Some Old Friends" (RCA-Rockaway Records, 1977) (LP)
Lucky Starr "Mister Truck Driver" (RCA, 1978) (LP)
Lucky Starr & Craig Morrison "Son Of A Gun" (Self-released, 20--??) (CD)
A collaboration between Lucky Starr and his son, Craig Morrison, a country picker who moved to Nashville in 2011 and found work as a session player... Not sure when this one came out, but I think it was self-released back in Australia.
