Rodney Ronald Louis Bernard aka Rod Bernard (1940-2020) was a Louisiana cajun born in Opelousas who grew up steeped in the regional music of the postwar era. While he was still a kid, he played country and cajun music live on the radio, but as a teenager he started his own rock bands and pioneered the bluesy, rootsy style later known as swamp pop. Like a lot of 'Fifties rockers, Rod Bernard returned to country music later in life, although he kept rocking through most of he 'Sixties and only "went country" well into the following decade.
