Lillian Askeland is one of Norway's most established country singers, including her decades-long solo career and tenures with bands such as Country Snakes and Silver Stars. Born in Bergen back in 1949, Askeland broke through in her teens, with a talent show win in 1965 led to her first record deal, and later to a spot on "Landhandelen," a country-themed TV show sponsored by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). The "Landhandelen" show led to a series of performances and souvenir albums called "Countryfest," which featured Askeland and many of Norway's best-known country stars of the 1970s.
