Carla Bozulich & The Geraldine Fibbers were pioneers of the 1990's "alt-country"movement, and stalwarts of California's indierock scene. Bozulich and guitarist Nels Cline continued to collaborate after the band broke up, and she has also released several solo albums... Here's a quick look at her work...

Discography - Albums

Geraldine Fibbers "Geraldine Fibbers" (EP) (Virgin Records, 1994)
This 6-song EP convincingly blends a mild, atonal twang with arch, John Cale-style, artsy-fartsy, punky-wunky rock'n'roll drone... It's less blaring and more melodic than some of their other stuff, and while I wasn't initially drawn to it, it does have more depth than your average twangcore disc, and bears up to repeated listens. Plus, they get major extra points for covering both George Jones' "The Tour" and Bobbie Gentry's "Fancy," with a little Rolling Stones "Sympathy For The Devil" interpolation thrown in towards the end... All these songs were later included on the What Part Of... album that came out a few years later. Definitely worth a spin or two! (Oh, and it has a hidden "mystery track," too! Remember those? How darling.)

Geraldine Fibbers "Lost Somewhere Between The Earth And My Home" (Virgin Records, 1995)

Geraldine Fibbers "Live At The Bottom Of The Hill" (Virgin Records, 1996)

Geraldine Fibbers "Butch" (Virgin Records, 1997)

Geraldine Fibbers "What Part Of Get Thee Gone Don't You Understand?" (Sympathy For The Music Industry, 1997)

Scarnella "Scarnella" (Smells Like Records, 1998)

Carla Bozulich "Red Headed Stranger" (DiCristina Stair Builders, 2003)
Ex-Geraldine Fibber frontlady Bozulich in a fairly straight cover of Willie Nelson's landmark 1975 concept album, albeit with a more pronounced "rock" flavor... Naturally, Willie's version is far better, but it's an interesting project anyway: apparently Willie himself thought so, too, since he plays on several tunes, along with Nels Cline and other pals of Carla... It's certainly an ambitious project!

Carla Bozulich "I'm Gonna Stop Killing" (DiCristina, 2004)

Carla Bozulich "Evangelista" (Constellation Records, 2006)
